Paul S. Otellini was born and raised in San Francisco, California, United States. His family is of Italian origin.〔 Otellini graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparatory and holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of San Francisco earned in 1972.〔 He received an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley in 1974.〔
